Being famous is commonly seen as a magnificent feat, but celebrities are often not who they present themselves as. Celebrities’ private lives should
be open to the public.
An event that demonstrates why celebrities' private lives should be open is the recent Diddy scandal. Diddy, also known as Sean John Combs, is a
rapper and music producer who gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In November 2023, Diddy's girlfriend of eleven years, Cassie Ventura,
accused him of multiple sexual misconducts. These accusations include assault, harassment, trafficking, and abuse. After this claim, several more victims
stepped forward to confirm similar experiences with Diddy. This was the beginning of an ongoing lawsuit that continues to bring more of Diddy’s crimes to
light. The FBI got involved and raided Diddy’s house, finding substantial evidence that Diddy was involved in a child sex trafficking organization along with
other currently unnamed celebrities. In Diddy’s prime time, he was an idol. He owned a men's sportswear company called “Sean John,” a music producing
company called “Bad Boy Records,” and had 36 of his songs make it to the Top 100 Billboard. From an outsider's view, he had it all. What was not known by
the general public was the numerous sexual assault reportings that date back all the way to 1990. He was able to keep this information under wraps due to his
wealth and social standing. The public has a right to know the kind of people that they are idolizing. If this information was known, it is very possible Diddy
would not have reached the point of power where he could run a sex trafficking ring.
Additionally, another famous person who displays why celebrities' private lives should be public knowledge is Lizzo. Lizzo is known for her most
popular songs, “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell,” both of which promote body positivity and self-confidence. Unlike the image she portrays, Lizzo allegedly
fat-shamed multiple of her plus-size backup dancers. An ongoing lawsuit against Lizzo has revealed that she was not only discriminatory but also sexually
harassed her dancers. Many women had previously identified with Lizzo as being bigger but still confident in herself, but after this lawsuit, she lost a great deal
of her fans. She is another celebrity who puts on a facade for the public but, in reality, is not who she appears to be.
The private lives of famous people should be available to the public because people idolize celebrities when they are often not who they seem to be.
Before idolizing a celebrity, one should consider how well they really know this person.
