Around school, senior Liz Kunzi is recognized by her peers for her involvement in many extracurricular activities and sports. Kunzi enjoys running, especially cross country. Kunzi has run cross country all four years of high school. “I ran track my freshman and sophomore year, but not anymore,” said Kunzi. Kunzi recounted her favorite memories from cross country including singing songs from The Greatest Showman on the way to meets and back home. Kunzi also spoke fondly of running through the Nature Center and playing hide-n-seek. Kunzi’s personal record for a 5K cross country race was 20:31.5, which she earned in her sophomore year, solidifying her spot on the varsity team.
Kunzi plays an active role in the school’s student council, demonstrating her commitment and leadership since she first joined as a freshman. One of her favorite parts of the day is the time spent with these members before their morning board meetings. During these moments, they engage in fun activities, such as distributing doughnuts to fellow students, which has become a cherished tradition known as “Donut Friday.” This initiative is organized specifically for students with Blue and Gold Renaissance.
For the past two years, Kunzi has been actively involved with The National Honor Society and The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, both of which have enhanced her high school experience through leadership and community service. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is just one of several faith-related extracurricular activities that Kunzi is passionately engaged in. In addition, Kunzi has dedicated three years to being a part of Young Life, an organization that focuses on building relationships and building faith among students. One of the most cherished memories for Kunzi is the experience of attending Young Life camp.
Kunzi is also recognized by her classmates for her involvement with the ski team. She has been a part of the ski team for three years and hopes to continue skiing after high school. Although Kunzi doesn’t have one specific person who inspired her to get involved with extracurriculars and sports, she says her family and her classmates, specifically upperclassmen, helped introduce her to these activities. “I plan to continue Young Life after high school,” Kunzi said,” and I will continue to run, ski, and stay involved in college and with my community.”
