History teacher Marc Beemer takes great pride in his role as being a father. Throughout his teaching career, he has learned valuable lessons, primarily about how to better encourage and support his children. He emphasized the significance of encouraging them to embrace mistakes and recognize that perfection in grades isn't essential. It's also clear to him that his kids possess impressive motivation and drive. “They really have a strong sense of independence and responsibility,” said Beemer.
A crucial aspect of his parenting has been fostering their curiosity and passion for learning. He also pointed out that his children have dedicated lots of effort and time to reach their goals. Reflecting on family memories, Beemer recalled their trips to historical places like Washington, D.C., and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He aims to always be a source of support for his kids, a mindset that also extends to his teaching and the relationships he builds with his students. The values and lessons he taught his kids growing up have also made a huge impact on who he is as a teacher. He is always making sure that his students know that he is there for them and will help them in whatever ways he can.
His kids have both made many accomplishments and now both attend the University of Michigan and he attributes that to all of their own hard work. Ultimately, Beemer hopes his children learn the value of loving one another and others, finding joy in the little things, and understanding that failure and mistakes are okay because no one is perfect.
