For Sydney Scholtens, art isn’t just a pastime, it's a passion that has shaped her life and future. Named the school's Class Artist, Sydney has spent years refining her skills, pushing her creative limits, and finding new ways to express herself through her work.

“Art is a way to express myself, and it's really fun, it’s also really challenging and I like to push myself with my art,” said Scholtens.

Her artistic journey began at a young age, inspired by her father’s own creative talent. Watching him work sparked an early interest, and soon she was experimenting with different techniques and styles on her own. “I also found it interesting as a kid. My dad was always a really talented artist, and he inspired me to continue,” said Scholtens.

Largely self-taught, Scholtens has spent countless hours perfecting her craft. While much of her skill comes from personal practice, she credits her high school art teacher Jason Meyer for helping her refine her techniques and expand her creative perspective. “I’m mostly self-taught, but I’ve worked a lot with Meyer,” said Scholtens. His guidance has played a key role in shaping her artistic identity, providing support and encouragement along the way.

Scholten’s dedication to art has not gone unnoticed. Since her freshman year, she’s had her sights set on earning the Class Artist title. Now, as a senior, she sees it as a meaningful recognition of her hard work. “I’ve wanted to be a Class Artist since I was a freshman, and it’s really nice to be recognized by my classmates for my work.”

Looking ahead, Scholtens has big plans for her artistic career. She will be attending Kendal College of Art and Design, a school that will help continue to nurture her creative talent. However, her ambitions don’t stop there, she also plans to pursue a tattoo apprenticeship, blending her love for fine art with a career in body art.

Scholten’s story is one of dedication, inspiration, and creative growth. From sketching as a child to earning the title of Class Artist, her journey proves that passion and persistence can turn talent into something truly remarkable. As she moves onto the next chapter of her artistic career, one thing is certain her creativity will continue to leave a lasting impact.
