The school’s third annual Winter dance, MORP, allowed for students to attend another high school dance, without all the extra added pressures of a formal dance. This dance was after a home basketball game, and was a dress up or dress down event, so students could have more freedom to choose what they wanted to do. Student Council advisor, Frau Wedge, organized the event, hoping that the game would attract more students. “We were trying to allow for the idea for it to be after a basketball game so we didn't want people to have to choose. Come to the game and then come to the dance after! Also we didn't want people to not come because they couldn't afford to purchase another dressy outfit. We were trying to be as inclusive as possible,” said Wedge.
The reason for the dance was due to the cries of the students. The students wanted another event they could all attend. However, the Student Council saw a decline in interest this year, which was one of the reasons they stopped having a winter dance in the past, and therefore it was not a money maker. About 300 students attended MORP this year, which was about how many students they predicted, but far less than the amount of students who attended Homecoming in the fall.
Due to the low attendance numbers, advisors are unsure if MORP should be continued in the coming years, but students can use their voice and input their opinions. This dance has allowed for students to have a more relaxed evening, experience another high school dance for all grades, and to just enjoy the night with friends.
