Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, the niece of the King of Thailand, recently adopted an Akita Inu dog. The dog, named Moo Daeng, (not to be confused with the famous pygmy hippo - Moo Deng) lived most of his life on the streets with his former owner, a homeless man. The pair spent their time hanging around a local 7-Eleven convenience store asking for money and help. In November of 2024, Moo Daeng’s owner became sick and passed while away from the dog and their usual spot. Moo Daeng, then on his own, continued to lie in their regular spot, waiting for his owner to return.

The owners and staff of the 7-Eleven began to take care of the dog, giving him food, blankets, and a stuffed animal to give him company. Photos of Moo Daeng started appearing on Facebook, and his story went viral. In one day, he received over 30,000 reactions on his posts and many comments suggesting someone adopt him. The story was even featured on a Japanese news network. On January 22nd, a Facebook account called Mari-Mo Photography posted saying that Princess Siribha had adopted Moo Daeng after getting permission from the owners of the 7-Eleven. The princess had found out about the dog after seeing posts of strangers taking care of him and raising money to pay for his medical treatments. Seeing that Moo Daeng was severely depressed and living in rough conditions, she decided to take him in. He was brought to Kasetsart University Veterinary Hospital for a health check and then sent to Chiang Mai where the princess lives.

Princess Siribha is a well-known animal rights activist with around thirty rescued pets already in her care. “I love all the dogs and cats in my home equally like my own children,” she said. The princess sympathizes with Moo Daeng’s situation since she has suffered from depression herself. She plans on taking good care of Moo Daeng and getting him through his depression while providing him with a safe home and loving family, as well as continuing to share Moo Daeng with his fans and giving them regular updates on him.
